Waltham Vanguard, 23 Jewel Railroad Pocket Watch, DES
This Waltham railroad pocket watch is 18 size (case diameter 54 mm). This 1892 model movement is marked Vanguard, with 23 jewels, adjusted 5 positions, with raised gold jewel settings, lever set, and recessed balance wheel. This has a faceted diamond end stone as the balance cap jewel and was Waltham's highest grade movement. Movement condition is about mint. The original porcelain dial is double sunk with two faint hairlines in the outer chapter. The case is nice gold filled with a little bit of brass along the lower edge and on the pendant. Crystal is unbreakable replacement. Made in about 1911.
This watch runs and keeps reasonable time: within 5 minutes or LESS per day. I do not know the history of this watch, so it may need to be serviced.
