Description
You are looking at a large assorted lot of antique/vintage/mid-century SEATTLE FIRE DEPARTMENT uniform buttons in both 5/8" & 7/8" sizes. Buttons are previously owned and previously worn on fire department uniforms. This lot includes 18 large (7/8" diameter) buttons - 15 silver tone and 3 brass tone and 29 small (5/8" diameter) - all silver tone. All with metal shank on back of button. A few of the shanks are bent from age and use (visible in photos but if you need more info or another photo - please ask).Buttons are from a variety of manufacturers which, in theory, may indicate age of button - but nothing is guaranteed or certified except that they were in my grandparent's basement for a very, very long time.
Back of button markers indicating manufacturer is as follows:
* Waterbury Button Co. (The Waterbury Button Co. has been making buttons for over 200 years)
* Superior Quality (is the back-mark used by Waterbury Button Co. from 1875-1935)
* CA Brophy (Hinsdale, Aurora and Chicago, IL and Madison, IN - C. A Brophy manufactured uniform buttons and badges as early as 1896, in Hinsdale, IL, and later in Aurora and Chicago, IL and Madison, IN. He later filed for a business license in Oklahoma in 1908 as Charles A. Brophy & Sons Co.)
* SA French (New York - SA French Company was in business from 1893-1928)
