    About me
    Extremely rare
and historically interesting pocket watch with representation of the world as it looked between 1835-1845. French miniature world map divided into two home spheres, each view is smaller than a 1 Euro cent coin, (15mm) yet everything is well legible at 15-20x magnification. How this reduction in quality was achieved is a mystery to me.
Exceptionally fine Swiss "bassine et filets" case made in all the very best heavy quality, 18k gold, (gold content determined with acid test), double open-faced, multiply stepped and convex curved bezels, two recessed pushers to the band for manual adjustment of day and date, olivette for hand-set diameter 58mm
Highly complicated Swiss precision movement: Very fine grained and gilt precision lever movement, 21``` lines, lever with counter weights in the form of cockchafer feelers, large bimetallic balance with gold and platinum screws, index fine adjustment, ruby bearings stones, calendar with three displays. Numbered 7789, the clean movement is in excellent, fully functional condition cleaned by watchmaker and checked for function.
Two Dials: first - white enamel, radial Arabic numerals, outer track for minutes/seconds, blued steel hands with fleur-de-lys terminals, centre seconds, sunken centre with monochromatic enamelled views of the world marked Mappemonde en deux Hémisphères each view marked Hémisphère Occidental and Hémisphère Oriental.
Second dial - white enamel, three subsidiary dials for date, month and day in French.
The maps are incredibly detailed although it has a diameter of only 15mm, which is smaller than a 1-cent piece (!). On the edge of the map are the mountains of the corresponding continents by height and numbered. Centered below between the cards is written: les chiffres center parenthèses indiquent l` epoque des Principeles de'n commertes faites par les Europiens (the numbers in parentheses indicate the date of the most important trade agreements of the Europeans). All texts still readable with appropriate magnification. Antarctica is still blank, the dating is very easy to determine, since California still belongs to Mexico, and Texas is an independent republic. The Republic of Texas was a sovereign state from 1836 to 1845, with the annexation of the Republic of Texas on February 19, 1845, Texas passed to the United States. The card is unfortunately not signed.
