    Description

"BACK IN ACTION WITH COOL WELD" - for 75 years!!
MEMBER NAWCC - for 50 years!!
This is an 18 size .925 Sterling silver pocket watch bow with fob strap / chain guards. The guards at the 3 and 9 O'clock positions are for keeping the fob strap or chain swivel from interfering with the crown or pusher. These were on the more elaborate high quality cases. We ALWAYS recommend an "insulator strap"  installed on your watch chain swivel for gold and silver bows. That way, the bow doesn't wear out at the 12:00 position as so often seen.  The "insulator strap" can be made out of a 1" long x 3/8' wide piece of thin leather (like a fob strap) with two 1/8" holes in it at either end. This style bow is rarely found if at all as N.O.S. for sale. We are making small runs of these.  These are for 18 size Coin and Sterling silver 3 thru 5 Troy oz. watch cases such as Dueber, Waltham, Fahys, Illinois, Blauer and others.
Cases that 2 through 2 1/2 ounce will be TOO SMALL for this style and cases that are 6 through 8 ounce will be TOO BIG for this style of case.
We make these out of 8 gauge / .128" / 3.26mm .925 Sterling silver round stock. The guards are semi permanently cemented in place with Cyanoacrylate cement. We did that in case one needs to make the bow larger (bow opening pliers) or smaller (cutting the bow ends / bow tightening pliers) in diameter for a given case. That would put the guards out of the horizontal line they are in. A good pair of pliers with the jaws taped will loosen the guards for re-positioning to a horizontal line again. The guards can then be re-cemented or silver soldered. They are not polished as you will do that once the bow is installed and tightened (a drop of oil at the pendant sockets would help keep future wear down to a minimum). The bow O.D. is about 1" and the I.D. is about 3/4". Notice the gap in the bow is small. That is to enable you to use these on pendants that have a lot of wear in the pendant bow sockets
(or cut ends to close for proper fit)
. These bows "reach" down into the sockets without binding on the outer edge of the socket hole (that binding would make the socket hole even larger and the pendant weaker). Remember that a good bow install will have the bow stock in the middle of the socket and not binding on the outer edge of the cone shaped socket. These bows are soft so that they can be shaped to your pendant with good bow tightening pliers (essential for a good job).
Replace that old worn out bow on your Waltham, Elgin, Hamilton, Illinois, Hampden, U.S.Watch Co., Rockford, Newark, Cornell, Howard, Aurora and others with this new bow for a better looking and functioning case.

The images in this bid are part of the description. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE ON CONDITION AFTER MAIL SHIPMENT! Please let us know if there is a demand for silver key wind pendants as we can make ball on neck or ball on disc (the latter shows up on early Waltham cases) styles for 2 through 8 Troy oz. cases. We pride our selves in a DETAILED restoration work on 12 thru 18 size American pocket watches.
